Money for small creators

How many followers do you need to make money?

There is no magic follower count. A smaller audience that notices, trusts, and supports your work can be worth more than a much larger audience that scrolls past it.

Follower count is a weak signal on its own

Two creators can each have 2,000 followers and get very different results. One may have an active niche community. The other may have an old audience that rarely sees the work. The number at the top of a profile cannot tell you which one has more trust.

Look for signs that people care enough to act. That is more useful than waiting for an arbitrary milestone.

Choose the exchange

Five ways to earn from an audience

The best option depends on what your followers already value. Start with one model that fits your work. You can add another after you learn what people respond to.

1

One-time fan support

Followers send a voluntary payment because they value what you make.

Works well when
People already enjoy free work and want a simple way to say thank you.
Be ready for
Income varies, so do not treat each follower as a guaranteed payment.
2

Subscriptions or memberships

Members pay regularly for access, community, or extra work.

Works well when
You can deliver something useful on a dependable schedule.
Be ready for
Recurring promises create recurring work and cancellations.
3

Products and services

Sell a download, course, commission, consultation, ticket, or physical item.

Works well when
Your audience has a specific problem or wants something you can make.
Be ready for
Production, customer support, refunds, and fulfilment take time.
4

Affiliate links

Receive a commission when someone buys through a tracked recommendation.

Works well when
Followers trust your judgement and the product genuinely fits your subject.
Be ready for
You need clear advertising disclosures and honest recommendations.
5

Sponsorships

A company pays for access to your audience through agreed content.

Works well when
You have a clear niche, consistent work, and evidence that people engage.
Be ready for
Finding suitable brands and negotiating terms can become a job of its own.

Audience math

Small numbers can still become real money

Here is an illustration, not an earnings promise. If 1% of an audience of 1,000 chooses to send €10, the gross support is €100.

€60

creator share on BigFan

BigFan currently keeps 40% and the creator receives 60%. Stripe processing fees come from BigFan's share. Actual results can be lower or zero, and refunds reduce the final amount.

No content treadmill

One-time support asks for less from both sides

A subscription works when you want to promise something every month. A product works when you have something specific to sell. Direct support is different. A fan can pay once without expecting a shipment, a private feed, or another monthly charge.

BigFan adds a public fan board to that payment. Supporters can choose a display name or appear anonymously, and successful payments count toward all-time, weekly, and monthly rankings.

  • Fans pay as guests, without creating a BigFan account.
  • Stripe hosts checkout and handles the card details.
  • You see gross support, refunds, fees, and your share in the creator dashboard.
  • The leaderboard gives supporters a visible way to take part.

Make it easy to act

How to start earning from the followers you have

You do not need to launch every income stream at once. Set up one clear path, explain it in plain language, and see whether your audience uses it.

  1. 1

    Pick one reason to pay

Decide whether you are offering support, access, a product, a service, or a recommendation. Do not make followers decode a complicated menu.

  2. 2

    Create a trustworthy destination

Use a page that shows who you are, what happens after payment, what it costs, and how payments are processed.

  3. 3

Share the link where people already find you

Put it in your social profile, video descriptions, newsletter, or pinned post. Keep the wording consistent.

  4. 4

    Ask occasionally and specifically

Tell people what their support allows you to keep doing. Repeating the invitation sometimes is useful. Turning every post into a pitch is not.

  5. 5

    Review what happened

Track visits, payments, questions, and refunds. Change the explanation before adding more tools.

A good support request is direct

People should know that payment is optional and what it supports. You do not need false urgency or a dramatic story.

Example

“If my work has been useful and you want to help me make more of it, you can support me once on my BigFan page. There is no subscription, and you can choose whether your name appears on the fan board.”

Use your own voice. A short explanation attached to a piece of work usually feels more natural than an isolated demand for money.

Questions small creators ask

Can you make money with 1,000 followers?

Yes, but the number does not guarantee anything. A creator can earn with fewer than 1,000 engaged followers, while a much larger account may earn nothing. The offer, trust, reach, and willingness to pay matter.

Do I need 10,000 followers before I start?

No. Some social platforms reserve specific features for accounts that meet their rules, but you can use an external product, service, affiliate program, membership, or support page earlier.

Can I earn without selling a product or subscription?

Yes. One-time fan support lets people pay because they value your work. Be clear that it is voluntary support and not a purchase of goods, services, influence, or a charitable donation.

Does BigFan require a minimum follower count?

No. BigFan does not set a follower minimum. You need a supported social profile, a published creator page, and a completed Stripe setup before accepting payments.

How much does a creator receive on BigFan?

The creator receives 60% of each successful support payment and BigFan keeps 40%. Stripe processing fees come from BigFan's share. Refunds reduce the recorded support and creator share.

Is creator income taxable?

It may be. Tax treatment depends on where you live and how you work. Keep payment records and ask a qualified local adviser what you must report. This guide is not tax or financial advice.

Start with the audience you have

Give your first real supporters somewhere to go

Create your BigFan page, connect Stripe, and share one clear link. You can learn more from ten real supporters than from waiting for an impressive follower number.
